I agree, not all contractors are out to get you. Just all the bad ones.
Good contractors know that the labor force is what pays the bills. They must be respected and taken care of.

>Not Every Contractor is out to screw you...Thats probably the way contractors operate in NJ, but the vast majority pay up....if your work is clean, few gigs, and you do your cleanup...Bouncing checks can be anything...Even banks F.U. too!! There ARE a few that are truly out to screw you. I too, have been on ALL sides of this arena, and know the different problems faced by inhouse contracting, subs, primes, and most importantly in-house at a cable company, Comcast. The cable companies are really good at holding up the money they owe primes...it's to there advantage to keep the money as absolutely long as they can, to make their books look better, longer, and try and get their stock prices up...its a fact...and if the prime or sub you work for can't handle at least, say a minimum of 3 paydays, then he needs to rethink his volume....because nothing is certain unless you have deep pockets. But do like cablebrasil said and check out the bank the check is drawn on, before you make your deposit...good luck.

>>GOOD LUCK GETTING YOUR $. i reallY MEAN THAT.. I've been on both sides of a contractor. As a worker and manager. Every contracting company is out to screw their workers, PERIOD! There are no decent contracting companies though most of the guys (techs) that do the work are the greatest, hardest working guys. They false bill cable companies, backcharge their techs, etc etc

>>>Question:
>>>I work for a company that the contract is coming to an end. The just gave me my last check. I think it is bad. They use a different bank than I do. If I deposit the check into my account & it bounces, will my bank take the money back from me or will they go after the company that wrote it?
>>>I have bills, & if I deposit the money, & write checks to pay bills, I need to know that the money will be there, so I don't bounce checks.
>>>Unfortunately, I'm think some of you old timers may have some experience with this. Could you please help me with some info?
>>>Thanks a lot,
