cabledawg - I'm gonna try and answer your question the best I can.
As someone who's been in the postion of hiring/firing people, I can attest that there is more than just my decision when it comes to hiring. "LIABILITY" is the key word. Now ... If I'm processing a new application and they guy says that 11 years ago he got stupid and now has a criminal record I look at that from a background check and conduct a 2nd interview later. I'm face to face with the guy. I'm asking him questions and feeling him out. Getting to know him and how it's been over all this time. All in an effort to make up MY mind if he's still a risk or not. Let's say for argument sake that I approve this guy and I want to hire him. You think "Great!! The dood has a job now".
Not so fast!! There are other considerations to take into account and any one of them will kill the hiring process for this guy.
#1 - The MSO - If they don't want to take a risk on the guy because of background or credit check - They won't issue a badge to him. I got no need for a guy that I can't get badged.
#2 - The Vehicle Insurance Company - If they won't add him to the company policy because he might be a high risk driver then he can't drive my vans - hiring process killed.
#3 - General Liability Company - Again, If they won't add him to the company policy or cover him, I got no use for him because now I can't send him into customer's homes.
In order for this guy to get the job, it's not just my "Yes" that does it, but it takes a perfect 4 out of 4 to get it. Any "No" from any of the 4 and he's dead in the water.
As much as I like this guy and want him as an employee, I can't do shit if we can't get him insured or we can't get him a badge.
So, for all those that have slammed companies in the past because you didn't get hired due to YOUR background, don't blame the guy that did your interview. Blame yourself for not listening to your momma and daddy when they tried to teach you "Right from Wrong". You didn't listen and now you pay the price.
Should it hang around your neck for life?? In my opinion ... Yes. But that's a different topic for later.
