There are two classes of workers namely independent contractors (subs) and employees (in house)
The use of so called independent contractors allows the exploitation of people who are genuinely seeking work, creates an unfair advantage over those who hire employees in most cases, and denies employee rights to workers who should really be employees somewhere else. The independent contractor deal is one major problem.
Employees who don't understand the employment relationship are often subject to unfair garnishments, wage theft (overtime), unfair restrictions (asking for permission from current employer to work for "competing" cable/satellite installation contractor as the case may be.
I suggest that each individual worker strives to get informed for himself.
