If government healthcare plans actually work why did the canadian pm come here for surgery? I can tell ya its a fact we will have an extreme shortage of doctors 10 years the date uncle sam gets into healthcare or they will fast lane the degree. The average doctors salary is less than a nurse anethesist now, bout the same as a dentist. Doctors or doctor groups met several times in recent years about health insurance agency control. They were considering forming some type of group or union to stave off their imposing rules n regs. Read an article recently about gynocologist saying malpractice has risen so sharply that many of her constituents left the field altogether. She said she was one of the last ones in that area and to leave would create a huge void for mothers to be. She stated that the other doctors could not handle her load of patients. The federal government is not, will not, and never has been efficient at anything. The core to making this work would be the people that do it. We have lawyers attempting to get into the healthcare business. I know people that work for the government utility in TN, TVA, making more than the average doctor. These same people have little to no college. I think there should be more competition in the industry but uncle sam is not competitive. uncle sam can lose money year after year and not make cuts or changes to balance the sheets. They always look elsewhere for money to feed the beast. What I dont understand is if the profits are so high with these health insurance carriers, where is the competition? Honestly? One thing to remember many, many companies pay their own claims. Ex.. You work for comcast(pure speculation). You have a heart attack. Cigna healthcare is contracted to negotiate, approve and administer payments(for a fee and incurrs no liability for claims) for comcasts very own healthcare plan on your behalf. Its not as simple as selling insurance when you stated profits. The cignas, bluecross blue shields do not sell tylenol, they try to get the best prices from the hospitals and doctors for not only their own healthcare plans but also the companies they just provide administrative services.
Start with the doctors, get their input and wisdom(who better to guide ya than some of the most intelligent group of prof). Eliminate laws that deter a competitive environment for healthcare companies. Lower liability claims against healthcare proffessionals. Create a feirce environment against people that can afford healthcare, choose not to, bail on medical bills. I know of someone that has their kids in private school and claim not to be able to afford healthcare. With the economy, looking at the baby boomers, I believe right now this healthcare plan isnt the best idea. In theory its awesome but reality doesnt agree. It is a gamble and noone can guarantee the outcome. This plan could literally be the straw that breaks our back.
Suprisingly one would think this industry would be unaminous behind this plan. But then again people here see first hand how people take advantage of the good will of our government.
