I left contracting for Mediacom a few years ago because of all of those things you mention. That's the only option you have, either take it while they laugh at you, or leave. I will always choose to leave!!!! For me it's always business, not personal. If I can't make X amount of money for my time, I move on. Mediacom is about the worst to contract for now, except some of the outfits in Florida may be just as bad. I'm referring to the install side of CATV.
