If you are willing to swallow a little pride and you have a decent boss, try sitting him down and showing him your budget. Explain to him that you understand you are starting new but you are not new to the business, if you truly are good at what u do tell him to give you two weeks and then check your work. Do the best you can and show him that he has a valuable trustworthy employee but be firm in telling him that as much as you like the work you cannot afford to let your family suffer by not being able to provide for them. Most owners that are worth their salt can tell sincerity from bullshit in a matter of seconds, be honest and see what happens. Now for the smart ass part, you will be lucky to find an owner worth his salt. Good Luck, these times are hard and they aint gonna get better any time soon.
