You're exactly right Steve, I once was drilling in West Virginia with a drill that the water pump was shot on the pressure was barely half of what it should have been. The dirt was something the locals called fire clay good for brick making, very easily to drill through but if the head was stopped up which it usually was for lack of pressure changing direction or pitch was impossible. Not to mention having to pull out all the time to unstop the head because we were getting hot. We all know what a bitch it can be sometimes to get water hell I've seen hydrants that have even been alarmed for the many who don't use water meters. I'm sure you've seen it how fast that head can go from 60% to 160% and the sonde is toast.
Also nothing worst than when you are reaming back and on your last rod you run out of water and its beer thirty time. We would actually use every damn liquid we could find even piss to get that reamer back. Never use beer though that would be a sin.
