You've got it mixed up a bit. Healthcare costs,not wages, kept going up due to people living longer, and they had a high number of retirees vs. number of active workers. But its kinda all the same when you consider your healthplan is part of your compensation package. Healthcare is where the biggest difference is seen, when you compare Detroit and their competitors. The good wages, jobs bank, and other bennies are standard across the industry, even outside the country. But Detroit is the only place that has healthcare costs, in the country where healthcare costs the most.
