As you know, no one can predict future. But you can use data to make fact based projections.
You say you don't see how the costs can go down, while you insure more people. First you have to realize just how f*cked up our current system really is. If our current system wasn't as messed up, it would not be possible to cover more people and save money. If healthcare turns out to be a success, it will not be because of how good the Dems plan is. The main reason for it's success will be that our current system is so bad, it's just about impossible not to come up with a better plan.
Basically the savings comes from lowerinig costs the government pays out per patient. This savings is obtained by covering people BEFORE they get sick and are rushed to the ER. Instead of paying a 30K bill for heart attack treatment in the ER, by insuring people and allowing them a way to get prevenative care, you can significantly cut costs. This savings gives you the ability to cover more people.
Covering prevenative care, instead of just emergency care, is basically the key. Considering how low the cost of prevenative care is compared to emergency care, it's really just common sense to make the changes Dems areseeking. Think about it, the most expensive treatment is treatment you receive in the ER. Right now, this is primarily what the government covers. This is why our country pays the most for healthcare, and receives the least.
