You and your boss are lucky!
I once refused a mid span (ask a cabl dawg) because my ladder needed to be vertical. Instead of sending a bucket truck or a 40ft ladder they just sent another tech. He tried the climb. The ladder hook slipped. He died.
You were right. As a contractor you cannot be fired. They just don't give you any more work. You complain to OSHA for he unsafe condition and try to sue them.
If you are an employee.....run...don't walk to the nearest lawyer.
