Re: You have the power to change it.

As a contractor sit down and figure out every little expense you pay to work for a prime over a years time ( don't forget the cost of your vehicle and the average lifetime of 5 years service), and then subtract that from your gross income, then divide that amount by 52 weeks, then divide again by roughly 65 (hours per week). This is what you make an hour.  Roughly after expenses a good install contractor claiming to make $2500 a week ends up with 17.51 an hour. Now do not forget to set aside 25% of that for taxes, and when the health care reform bill becomes law watch another 300 + $$$ a month vaporize.  Remember as a self employed person your taxes are not contributed to by the prime and Uncle Sam wants theirs.
But at $17 an hour with years of experience me thinks you could find better these days. If your in your 20's go and apply for a gov't job. You'll start at a higher wage than that and in your 40's you'll be retired at full pay with a full health benefit package.  Hell Ft Knox is a small city and they are getting ready to hire on thousands of GS employees.

P.S. there are not many install contractors seeing $2500 weekly paychecks anymore. More like $2500 every two weeks and at that rate your at $8.50 an hr.
