Slippery Slope
"In debate or rhetoric, a slippery slope (also the thin end of the wedge, sometimes misstated as thin edge of the wedge, or the camel's nose) is a classical informal fallacy. A slippery slope argument states that a relatively small first step inevitably leads to a chain of related events culminating in some significant impact, much like an object given a small push over the edge of a slope sliding all the way to the bottom.[1] The fallacious sense of "slippery slope" is often used synonymously with continuum fallacy, in that it ignores the possibility of middle ground and assumes a discrete transition from category A to category B.
Note that establishing this chain of logical implication (or quantifying the relevant probabilities) makes this form logically valid. The slippery slope argument remains a fallacy if such a chain is not established" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope
This is a classical argument method designed to scare people into mistrusting something. Republicans have done it for decades referring to how democrats want to take everyone's guns away. Democrats have used it as recently as the immigration immunity issues, stating that penalizing or deporting a substantial amount of illegals will shut down the country's production. feel free to throw in your own examples.s
its funny to see how people trust "big business" so much more than our government. "big business" has been poisoning us with prescription drugs and tobacco, killing us in defective vehicles, stealing our retirement, outsourcing our jobs to other countries, over charging us for fuel..and the list goes on and on and on. yet, when the government tries to DO SOMETHING about it, they are socialists who are ruining this country.
if you truly feel that "opening state borders" will make one bit of difference or is really the answer to all our insurance problems then post why...some vague statement about "competition" and "trimming waste" says absolutely nothing about pre-existing conditions and being terminated right when you need insurance the most. and i think we all know that if insurance companies ARE able to trim waste, they will be more than happy to post higher profit margins.
