agreed...nec no longer recognizes cold water bonds
directional coupler has greater isolation from port to port, which suggests a superior piece of equipment for delicate signals such as qpsk and 16 bit qams (although 256 bit qams are more delicate). feeding to a splitter after the dc gives the tech the opportunity to use a window (mitigation) filter which further isolates the internet frequencies and also allows a small ground wire from splitter to ground block which lets any ac feedback go to ground without traveling through the directional coupler. but just using the dc increases port isolation, in theory.
