a few thoughts...
1. the american people are already paying for the uninsured. through medicaid and higher medical bills for those who can afford to pay. this country is full of people wracking up medical bills that will never be paid. many of these people do not qualify for any kind of insurance but some of them do and choose not to get it.
2. the few main "big" insurance companies operate almost as monopolies. they push the envelope of what they can get away with and then they wait and watch for blow back. remember what happened to cable when dish started up? cable started 2-way service, added voip and vod. remember what happened to phone prices when cable started offering voip? the prices went down and became competative. check the profits the insurance companies are experiencing. survival for these companies isnt the issue. there is enough money in this industry that you will not scare these companies away. unfortunately, no one else is stepping up to provide this competition.
3. these companies are the real brokers of life and death, literally. death panels? no, ONE person sitting behind a computer can delay your medical treatment, deny your claims or cancel your benefits with a keystroke. think about that when your wife, father/mother, or child has a disease that can be cured/slowed if treated quickly.
just some thoughts...
