Re: Satellite Numbers

The Directv sats also are in "orbital slots"...parked next to other satellites...23,000 miles out and over the equator in the Clarke Belt...named after Arthur C. Clarke. The number is West Longitude eg 101 W. The Directv sats are   the 101 and 9 degrees west the 110 and 9 degrees west of that the 119. That was their "fleet" for years. Then they added the Ka band sats in slots around the 101. Three degrees east of the 101 is the 99 and three degrees west of the 101 is the 103.

The most recent Ka / Ku Slimline 5 "sees" signals from the 99,101,103, 110 & 119.

Having said all that there are some changes coming along.

DISH is similar...they use a launch location at 72, 110 & 119...but need two dishes to "see" the 72 and the other sats at the same time. Directv also has been using the 72 slot but is slowly abandoning it to allow the single dish application.

Stay tuned.
