A good idea to help with the integrity of this site might be a 'time stamp' that appears at the bottom of the post or reply when something is 'edited'. This way, when somebody goes back and 'edits' their post, or reply to a post, the date and time any such changes are made is documented in the affected posting. This will better enable the reader to assess for themselves if the poster is actually knowledgeable on what is being written, or if they are trying to backpeddle so they don't appear as being un-knowledgeable on the subject as they really are, when trying to be 'the smartest person in the room.
But better yet, is the inability to even edit ones post at all after a specified amount of time, say 2 hours. In this case the poster would have time to correct any mistakes in punctuation or grammer they wish to change, or thoughts and ideas upon further reflection, but after 5 hours and other postings, would keep them from changing the post to 'go along with the crowd'. This should result in more people taking their time and thinking about what is being posted. Recently I have had several posters 'edit' their posts after I (and others) also posted in contradiction to what they originally posted. Being able to edit has made subsequent posts or replies appear as unfounded.
Just a suggestion or at least a starting point, and maybe someone else can think of something different, or a better way. But regardless, something should be done to curb this.
