The dipole is used after the mono pole on your van finds the leak. The dipole then helps to narrow the leak down to its source and you can use your meter to get the reading '___ per meter at 10 feet' if that helps any. You need to use the dipole for FCC compliance. It is a long, long boring process. So many times I wanted to put a gun barrel in my mouth. lol
