dsams are great. if you are mostly doing installs, the 6000 is probably too much meter. there are cheaper versions that do just great. again, if you are just doing triple play installs you probably dont need much for trouble shooting.
i'm thinking the 2600. just need docsis, level w/ ber and mer, tilt, maybe upstream spectrum to proof drops. if you need to trouble shoot beyond basic level and mer/ber: dqi, hum, qam ingress, ingress resistance....not sure which of these items are basic and which ones would needed to be added with extra charge. count on spending up to 4000.00.
to be honest, dsam is the only meter i've used for non-sweep application. the other meters mentioned may be great. check where you plan on working, some systems are using jdsu's home cert software which allows (forces) a tech to run a test and the results are later downloaded into a database for inspection.
