Re: Comcastic( Not)

sounds like our system...we are the "flagship" for pure digital video in our company...no analog at any residential...

this is a major process when you consider all the rewiring that must be done to get the sub's wiring up to spec...

however, this is much cheaper than a full amp/tap/redesign upgrade if you want to recapture bandwidth for digital and hd. this almost completely eliminates all effective cable theft, if all the channels are encoded instead of just digitized.

you would think that disconnect and reconnect would go away, but the noise and leakage this would create would be a huge problem for all but the cleanest systems. so dont count on those going away forever.

the upside is...it is very surprising how many people with 10 tv's will drop to 4 if they have to pay a dollar a month for a little digital box. this IS great for noise and leakage if service and installers unhook the extra outlets as they go...and will reduce the amount of house amps in the field due to less splitter loss.

the downside is...count on rewiring a ton of rg59...lines that have given a sub  no problem for 30 years will suddenly fail them and they seem to take this very personal and you will be blamed, whether you are a contractor or employee.

overall this has been an interesting, challenging (pain in the ass) change in our system. if the process is done poorly and not thought out well, it will be problem after problem. once you work out the details, this only leaves getting thousands (hundreds of thousands) of new litlle boxes into the subs hands and then rewiring the crappy outlets...
