They have a pretty automated system. The one I saw here in Anchorage (which is one of the largest in the country) has large conveyor systems and computer reading technology. But they move so much more than the private companies and are cheaper by far. I can only think production is slow because the postal workers don't really try to get things done as fast as they could. They know they can't be fired so why try hard? Been to a post office lately? How fast is the worker working. Not. Not even medium. But slow. That is why there is a line. A big one all the time.
