Re: How much of this is true?

The problem with them all Ty is their one common thread, the federal government. The Post Office is bleeding money and customers, yet they will not downsize it to meet the reality of today because that will piss off the unions.
Social security you were dead on. The limp wristed geniuses in DC spent the money that should have been put into a trust fund for that program. If that was done, it would have been the on shining example of how the government could serve its citizens. But the actions of politicians have turned it into a gigantic looming burden on all of us by bribing us with our own money. The amount of money that the program is short is rapidly approaching 100 trillion. And eventually either benefit cuts or huge tax increases are going to have to happen for it to continue. But none of the pols will take it on because of the re election ramifications, so they keep passing the buck. And keep this in mind, we over spent by 1.4 trillion this year and social security still has a small surplus, what happens in 10 years or so.

Fannie Mae got turned into a political patronage haven and look what happened. The top regulator of it was sleeping with the CEO of it and nothing happened. Continue as if all is OK. Freedie and Fannie were the vehicles used to get the sub prime mortgage craze going, they insured most of it.

Your politician and your tax dollars, a match made in the depths of hell.
