Why on earth would they get laid off because you're doing work they alredy don't do. That makes no sense at all. Contractors like Lucent have been doing contract work for AT&T and the baby bels for over 100 years and have never caused a lay-off. AT&T workers don't install Central Office Equipment and never have. They have always used contractors for this. This arrangment has never caused a lay-off.
