All of these zero tolerance laws were knee jerk reaction written because of news coverage of violence. They make no sense other than the authors got tv face time for it. These laws are as nonsensical just like the ones where crack is mandatory long jail sentences but the same weight of powder cocaine is a slap on the wrist. All of those laws were written when crack became an issue too and when you look at the whole picture, it is insane how uneven it all is.
The kid brought a fork spoon and it probably had a knife, but he is six for heavens sake. These overly strict laws have caught kids with nail files and scissors without safety points and now a suit wearing proud six year old cub scout with his field utensils. Assinine to say the least.
