As a matter of fact many employer/ employee relationships are set up as piecework, ask the guys at knight that have been there a real long time, maybe some in arial or underground construction, they are employees paid on production with all the benefits. Some companies pay better than others, but insurance is often offered, workers comp is paid, some even provide trucks, tools, gas....many contractors are required to follow this type of business model. Directv requires that all contractors use an employee based staff for the office and installs, do they enforce it? only when the time comes to move someone new in......"this company xyz appears to be using contractors, none of which hold their low voltage licenses, we don't even have to pay these guys!!!"  Maybe you're not hearing it yet but many have and many more will.
