i didnt have time to read all the replies so maybe someone has said this already...
some systems use a low-end forward docsis channel and some systems use the higher end, 111 mhz versus 550mhz for example. Of course the return freq is always under 40 mhz. bear that in mind with considering where you use a diplexer
the other frequencies the cable system uses are present on a hsi line, unless they use an hsi filter (which is a window filter that blocks out most of the other forward frequencies). any frequencies that over lap, such as 250mhz and above, would be completely unuseable for both sat and catv. however analog may be robust enough to show you a static pic, but the digital signal will destroyed.
all that being said, the modem SHOULD have its own line (dedicated), or its quality and reliability will "probably" suffer. regardless of who piggy-backed who, if you want your service to work reliable, it would be best to run a new line.
