The phone line is there to allow HSPs to back charge people who don't connect it. Just because the customer has no land line phone is no excuse. Install twenty jobs in a TP without phones and YOU are not living up to expectations.
Remember MASTEC in Florida fired a bunch of tech who objected to telling customers the receivers would catch fire if not connected to phone lines.
I believe the DISH system can diagnose some box problems with the phone connection.
Directv uses it to identify where the box is running. It allows an ez way to use the PPV system. They give the cx caller ID on screen. The data about viewing habits is used and or sold. But mostly it is a way to lift cash from techs.
It is like grounding. Try calling to cancel a job because it cannot be grounded....like most aoartments. See what happens. That job also goes in with or without a phone. The wist HSP manager double charges the tech.
