Re: GPS Nav. - uses...

Been doing this for about 8 years with a cellphone, laptop and gps unit/bug... with papermaps for years before...

Installs, catv, sat, phone = Streets & Trips 2000+ allows for pushpin routing for efficiency, allows for mileage logs (based on your driving speeds, fuel mileage, road types, etc), tracks dollar amount figures & schedules for fuel stops and job times! all printable & customizable. With live GPS (newer versios allow for rerouting around live traffic

CLI = S&T & most CLI software packages interact, creating a live system map of leakage readings, as you drive around splicing or sweeping with coordinates & street addresses all reportable. (also good for finding those wireless hotspots - use that gps & free software on the net to get free internet access = wireless antenna on 28' boom wired to desk in van! got the pictures!)

Sweep - S&T great for routing to the node, learn the area due to larger screen & readable live maps; also great for mapping & tracking nodes worked, bad cable found. You can link this type of data right to the map for that location!!! and then host it on the net for your customers... pretty cool stuff!

Headend - well, it'll help you get to the headend, ecspecially if you have the coordinates!

Fiber - again, it allows you to track exact locations (with in ~20'), make notes about the location and save for reporting, all the while tracking your time, gas, routing and reporting

Splicing Coax - it'll get you to the area and allow for accurate tracking of work performed, even allows you to draw in your own node lines or powering, if you spend the time...

Laptop = $1000 (tons of other uses as well!!!!)
GPS bluetooth bug = $100 (works with my internet phone as well as the laptop)
Streets & Trips = $40 /yr (I've used the same version for about 2 years before) works great with Word, Excel, Access, etc...
Time saved, movies watched, emails answered, pictures shared, video messenger with family, etc... = PRICELESS!

If you really get into it, as some might, the gps bug works with the cellphone, the cellphone uses google maps and allows for markups, searchs, tracking etc... and Streets & Trips makes a smartphone software as well (free with the $40/yr software).
