No it is not socialism to give freely. It is socialism when a government mandates it. It is socialism when to government tells you what and who you are paying for. See the difference? One is voluntary and one is not. One is freedom and one is not. That is where I draw the line and it is easy to see. And so you know, those charities will not need to be there anymore because people will stop giving to them because the government took all your money to pay for social services without you consent.
