I hear you but flip the coin. They breed each other. Mastec does all kind of stupid crap to the techs and the good ones leave. The only people willing to tolerate the abuse are those who have issues in their past and those who have been bounced from all decent contractors. So other than getting rid of mastec's and directsat's how do you get rid of the hacks because they control so much of the work.
They swoop in and lower the rates to take all of the work in bulk. Every time they move into an area, they do this and the funny part is only the techs net income drops, not theirs. They then look at what they need to feed the machine that is their own bloated beauracracy ( ie half of the family is on the management payroll, and yes this is true, know it for a fact ) and what is left over goes to the tech.
They are the last thought in the whole process. And what do they add for the 40 to 60% off of the top? Lousy dispatch and backcharges don't get it done for that kind of money.
Cable MSO's, Direct TV and Dish, you don't like the quality of the work product? The order of responsiblity is 1. the primes, 2 yourself and last the techs in the field. I get a kick out of the whole you have to have a big "national" contractor mentality. Do you know who came up with that business model? The national contractors, that is who. And the carrier went along with it because they paid less per install, service call etc. But look at the end result, the crap workmanship and pissed off customers.
All of this so that they would only have to write 1 check instead on 20 or 30 and they could eliminate 1 or 2 supervisors to manage the field personnel. If a tech was paid what the prime was paid, or even a little less but way more than they get now, do you have a problem getting and keeping properly trained and equipped tech's in the field? It is all about the money Ty and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The carriers know exactly what they are doing and don't care a lick about quality because they saved a buck, got the prime to take the management to a strip club, got them some coke and a blow job.
So the techs in the field and the crap they throw up nowadays, it is what the carrier expected and that is why it won't change until the primes get the boot.
