Lightmaster sounds like you did well. If I owned your Nagant I would fire off a few rounds if I had the proper ammo. If it is 70-80% shooting a couple of rounds will not degrade it at all. I have had  people hand me revolvers that were absolutely perfect and said they were never fired. Most of which had been loaded and fired. If you have fired your gun it will leave an impression on the receiver back plate. Even if it was fired just once. Do you have any 7.62x38mm ammo for it.
