You can tape your torch to some layup sticks and set the thing on fire. They burn real easy and not too hot so you shouldn't have to worry about floating the center conductor. I've burnt them off amps before never hurt them. Would not do it if it was jacketed or had fiber around then you might have trouble.
Or you could wait until cold weather set's in, they aren't too fast or as protective of the hive after a good cold night, but you'll have to do it early in the AM before it warms up. Good luck to whoever does it.
