depends if you are going to be an in house installer or a sub contractor. in house techs in most areas get free premier package (in addition to very low pay lol) but free materials gas card, tools. in house is a great place to learn the craft until you can get your own rig and make some real money.
subcontractors don't get no free directv programming, and really don't care. but can make serious coin if your good at sales and custom work, i.e. wall fishing, hanging plasmas, etc. the more you know the more you make. if you slam jobs in or don't ground though you will get charged back 100% of the time.
save enough being a tech then start your own bizness like me ;) good luck
