If they can prove they own the property and you have not paid for it then they can press charges depending on the value of said property.
Grand larceny will not look good on your records, and the cost to get through the court system with criminal charges will end up being more than they probably owe you.
Like you said above "their equipment" you have already disclosed that it's "their equipment" don't get caught up in that.
