I hear ya Loco, I helped my older brother on his paper route and started my own route when I was old enough to do so, I've always had to pay my own way. My first drum set was bought from paper route money, my Grand Mother loaned me enough money to buy my second set when I started playing for a living (set of 1975 Rogers) and I still have them in storage. We try to give our kids more than what we had growing up usually to the detriment of our own kids, it ain't like it used to be. And also, Levis used to be my favorite jeans until a few years back, the San Fagcisco based company stopped donating to the Boy Scouts of America because they wouldn't let a known homosexual male be a Scout leader. I have not bought a pair of Levis since, OK I did once, I bought a used pair in a thrift store, but never again.
