Re: grounding


Grounds on the drop are not supposed to contain the strike, they are to lessen the chance of being struck to begin with. Lightning strikes usually start with a static discharge from the ground end meeting a streamer from the sky. The ground dispipates that charge from the ground end and by boding all utilities together you eliminate potential.

There is a lot of pics on the web showing the streamers and then the main bolt follows it back down to ground. Text book porential. And thats why you ground. You eliminate the ground streamer from your structure. It is not fool proof but it does work most of the time.
