if you haven't noticed most layoffs come right before a quarter ends or at the beginning of a quarter. Reason is, is stock prices. When they have to explain the company's loss's they then say it won't happen next quarter because our workforce is half of what it was. So cost will be down which translates to more profit. The only problem with this is, after about 2 to 4 weeks the remaining workforce can't keep with the workload so they have to bring those people back, then lay them off again at the beginning of the next quarter.
When i was a contractor for TWC they switched between all contractors and all inhouse guys every quarter. When they laid off inhouse guys it was so they can remove more overhead and have a "1 price" for installation or maintance or builds. Then after a while they would lay contractors off stating they are going to inhouse guys cause they are hourly and work cheaper. Except the inhouse guys were lazy and took twice as long to do something has a contractor. But they forgot that when they saw how fast a contractor gets something done. They think inhouse will do it just as fast.
