If it was Okinawa it was most likely fruit bat, A friend of mine that lived there for some time told me they would hunt them using lugnuts and slingshots. They would shoot the lugnuts at the bats, and the bats would fly right into them thinking they were bugs.
I had dog in Korea and it was not too bad, was a bit greasy but tasted good. The one thing I would never eat is Ba-loot (not the correct spelling) that's a egg that has a baby bird that has not fully developed, you still get the bones and things. The girls in the Philippians love it. I was never drunk enough to try it.
