Dr. Evans is from 'Science Speak'
He reiterates failings in the dangerous warming claims. But what is important is that it makes nonsense of the claims for oceans being warmed by CO2. And is is easily understood.
Lest we forget the prophecised 0.054% CO2 volume of the atmosphere (~2 parts per million a year being added to ~380 ppm by nature and us) will cause metres of sea level rise, melt icecaps, and murder polar bears. And toast grand children. And turn Earth into a worm hole, cause asteroids to collide and increase your fuel bill by 100% or more by 2020 or sooner depending, on how much more funding the EU and the club of rome propaganda machine, the UN need each year from now.
The oceans are shrinking - probably, the truth is we don't really know due to insufficient data. But the data that is used shows a cooling trend since 2003. Reports around Britain show the tide going out, here's one -
Archaeologists Discover Roman Coastline - Two Miles Inland. (isn't the S.E. sinking? Perhaps it is just bobbing.) I'll see if I can find more.
Here's the the first page of the paper, not a long read.
OCEAN TEMPERATURES: THE NEW BLUFF IN CLIMATE ALARMISM
by Dr. David Evans | July 21, 2009
Summary for Policymakers
• Air temperatures have been falling for years. Satellites show that 1998 was the warmest recent year and that a cooling trend started in 2002. Even the land-based thermometer data, which is corrupted by artificial heating sources close to 89% of its thermometers and which is heavily “corrected”, now shows a cooling trend developing from 2006.
• The alarmists recently switched to ocean temperature to measure global warming.
• The alarmists claim the world is still warming, that heat is building up in
the oceans, and that the ocean temperature is rising and rising fast. These claims implicitly depend on a time period to say what a “trend” is, because temperatures fluctuate. The alarmists provide the context by showing trends of 20 to 50 years. This is a clever trick to reframe the debate, and essential to their case.
• Ocean temperatures have only been measured properly from mid 2003, when the Argo network became operational. Over 3,000 Argo floats cover all the world’s oceans. They dive down to measure temperatures, then resurface to radio back the information. The previous XBT system did not monitor huge areas of ocean, did not go as deep, and was much
less accurate.
• Ocean temperatures are dropping slightly. The Argo data shows that the oceans have been cooling slightly since mid 2003.
Thought I'd add a note, with the new science finding high levels of CO2 not only boosts crop returns, they also beneficially suppress isoprene release by biomass. Isoprene in the leaves aids the plant or tree to better withstand high energy solar radiation and isoprene inhibition reduceses ozone formation and shortens methane's lifetime. Suppressing CO2 emissions may lead to uncontrolled warming by ozone and methane. More on that on Clothcap2.
