In my plan they don't get paid.They live and work at home in thier districts. Debates would be held in the town squares/ halls in the evening after work not in Washington. Then they would have to vote our wishes or have to face the people face to face more so than they do now. Either way they need to be brought home. It wasn't supposed to be a carrer for them.
