As you have made a point the best reply to an officer, be it police, sheriff of law enforcement is absolutely nothing . as word can be twisted and you could become involved in something you wish not. an anonymous phone call with as little info to help someone keeps you out of trouble .
A good cop is one you don't talk to . example the first thing a cop says to you when he pulls you over is did you know you were speeding and follow up questions to make you liar or admit to the speeding if you say nothing he has a problem . say nothing . just an example
