I paid money to rent a handheld before, but despite this being Mastec, I highly doubt its a matter of them trying to get over on you, by making you pay for one. Its simple, if you have a smart phone where you can log into csg/technet, or whateva site it is, then you won't have to rent a handheld from them. The way they are making their money, is how much they charge you for renting 1 from them if you do have to, think about it, $200/month for service??? Not even At&T cahrges that much (anymore), for their unlimted voice and data on smart phones, even after taxes. So yeh him telling Mastec that he's goin to use his own phone, is not goin get them to give him the handheld device.
