Well, I think you need to look at the motives for each. What is the motive of the government to provide health care? Answer: To get reelected. If they don't do a good job we toss them out.
What is the motive of the insurance company to provide health care? Answer: To create sustainable profits for its share holders. If they don't do a good job we have no other option. We complain but to what avail. They have set up the system. Its like going to Vegas. The house always wins.
My father was 22 years Navy. Then I did 8 years Marines. I was covered medical, dental and vision. Was it the best that money could buy? Not always, but I was covered. When I needed vaccinations, inoculations, check ups, tests, stitches, cleanings, limbs mended or even questions answered, I got it from very well intentioned people who cared. I had a medical record that followed me or I carried with me from station to station. It was like a maintenance log for your vehicle. It detailed every time something was done, and with that a professional could look at it and be better informed and make better desicions and recommendations.
The government is not looking to force anyone into "gubmint" health care, but why cant we at least have that option? If you opt to pay for private health care go right ahead. That should earn you a tax credit whereby you are not paying for all the fat, drunken smokers that may or may not be enrolled in the government system. BTW there are fat, drunken smokers that are paying for private health care and your premiums are higher for it.
