RESERVES!
We have been quietly phasing out a full-time standing Army, and grossly shrinking our numbers in Navy, Marines, and Air Force since 'Desert Shield/Storm' where it was proven they weren't needed anymore because we now have better (and more expensive) toys to replace them! We are extremely top-heavy with REMF's that will be retiring over the next decade, and congress is busy "saving money" by not training replacements, and out-sourcing the support and supply chains (Cheney's retirement fund: Halliburton/KBR/BlackWater)!
The point being that you should thank your kids and grandkids now because they will be paying back that 'JUST PAPER' funding as 'free' employees of the state, with no training or supplies to do it with!
And as much as I despise the thought, Mexico may become the only safe place to retire since they don't have anything anyone wants after the US borders are over-run. I sincerely hope not, but as the saying goes, "Plan for the Worst..."
