most 1099 "contractors" in this business are treated as employees.

IIRC the first thing a judge will look at to see if you're a contractor or an employee is if you are told what time to show up. If you have to be in by a certain time then that is strike 1 against the person who assigns work.

There are other measures as well, the more they supply for you the closer you are to an employee.

This is why at least around here so many primes have been sued for overtime and lost.
