The other party broke the contract when they refused to pay you. Even if your work product was claimed to be faulty you still have the right of remedy in most states. Right of remedy means that if the client claims that work product was faulty you are allowed to bring said work product within a certain time frame after said faulty work was brought to your attention.
There is very little integrity left on all ends in this industry any more.
