The US of A

When we all grew up, such thinking (below) was so obvious as to be beyond question. What the heck happened along the way? The wheels have truly fallen off! ANY body/organization/constituency with divided loyalties cannot accomplish anything, we all know that. Europeans, perhaps our own ancestors, dutifully, and joyously, came through the rigors of Ellis Island. Other American ancestors came via different routes. They followed the rules, and they continued to follow the rules as they became hard working citizens of this country. Not only that, but they passed on this sense of duty to their offspring. We now witness a hodgepodge of all sorts of people within our country, tons of whom have just simply walked across the borders, north/south, and simply just moved in. They DEMAND services and have flooded the hospitals, etc., causing many to just simply shut down, unable to afford this horribly huge influx of non-English speaking non-payers. The same phenomenon has hit our nation's school systems. I feel confident that most of us would welcome those who enter legally, work hard to learn English, and strive to satisfy the requirements to becoming citizens. It's the others, with loyalties to the nations they came from, just here to milk "the system" to obtain money and services, that I, personally, have a problem with.

"ONE NATION ... UNDER GOD ..."

The year is 1907, one hundred two years ago.

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag.. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'
