You know,,alot of it is your own damn fault. When something sounds too good to be true,, it usually is.
Just quit trying to bullshit yourself into believing "well maybe he just forgot", "he will pay on the next check" you know, crap like that.
Do you guys check out the local BBB before going to work, or insisted on talking with current and/or previous contractors?
If THE MAN is not willing to let you talk with these guys,, there is probably a reason.
Quit feeling so sorry for yourselves and start treating your business like a legit business.
Quit befriending these generals.
And who the hell would buy materials for someone elses house? Frickin stupid. Thats another dead give away right there.

I've been screwed, don't get me wrong here, but I learned how to prevail because I insist on contracts, signing papers and what have you.
The BIGGEST and most important thing you can do is TALK TO THE OTHER PREVIOUS/CURRENT CONTRACTORS!!!!
When I begin a new professional relationship with a POTENTIAL general contractor,,I approach him with the certainty that he going to try to screw me. I let him know this as well. I simply explain to him that I cannot and will not take a hit from him. I then gather HIS referances.
It's only fair, right? I provide him with mine and he WILL provide me with his. If not, he is obviously attempting to hide something.
GET THE FRICKING CONTRACTS SIGNED!!! DO NOT WORK UNTILL THIS IS DONE!!
Agree on prices.If you are not happy with the price to begin with,,, why the hell would you be later?
Get that BS about the backcharging figured out!! I do not sign a contract that does not give ME the opportunity to clear up any issues MYSELF FIRST within a reasonable time.
Come on guys,,figure it out and quit your damn snivveling. Nobody is going to feel sorry for you except yourselves.
If you guys pulled your heads out,, I guarantee the prices will reflect on that as well.
But really,, when you act stupid, you will be treated as such.
Another thing I noticed,,people asking where the work is. Why would I tell you where I am working? I could just as well tell you my bank account number as well.
I could just as well tell the general that I will take a pay cut.
When you tell all these people where you are working,,what do you think they are going to do? Damn right,,they are gonna underbid/undercut you.
Do you know what this results in? Damn right,,, lower prices for you, if you want to continue working for this outfit.
Making/keeping friends is fine,, but don't drag that into the business world because you will be destined for failure.
Whatever,, I don't care what you guys do because you can't touch me or mine or whatever I have going.
