When the first broadband network was scheduled to be built, I met with the Sr. VP of the Australian Corporation at the Los Angeles cable show about the Project Manager position. Upon his return to Australia, he had their HR department forward to me the details surrounding a work visa, housing expense and income tax rates. The salary at that time being offerd was 120K with a 1000K housing allowance monthly. Their company would sponser me and pay the legal fees to secure the work visa. The deal breaker was the fact that whomever accepted the position was subject to duel income tax, United States and Australia. I ask my CPA to review and comment. He informed me that I would pay 100% of Australia income tax and I would owe the US tax on the first 50K. Needless to say, I dclined the job offer and ended up working in England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain and Hong Kong instead.
