I went there in '99 to dive the great barrier reef. Its hot as hell, the roads suck and the aussies hate americans. That said its difficult to get a work visa, you'll need a college degree, show a fare amount of money in the bank, and someone (an employer over there) must sponsor you. Its not impossible but is difficult. Good Luck!
