Eventually it's all gonna fail anyway. The longer it takes to happen, and the more $$$ of the taxpayers the Govt. tosses at it trying to stop a gutted ship from sinking, the less that will be there when the people really need it.
Bottom line is once ya hit rock bottom there is no further down you can go. After that ya pick yourself up, dust your ass off and rebuild something on a new and firmer foundation. And hopefully we pay attention to the phrase "Those that forget their past are doomed to repeat it".
I used to have a great teacher named Mr Dunn and could never get why he went on and on about teaching us about the great depression and studying the events in the time line that lead up to it. Now I know why.
"Our" government is spending a lot of money right now and there's only one way they will be raising more, and that's going to be more and more taxes on the things we rely upon on a daily basis. Now comes the beef tax because cattle fart and use up carbon credits, people need a drink and a smoke to calm down in this harsh economic environment, so they'll tax that more as well.
Obama did not lie to us when he said we would not raise the income tax on any family making less than 250k, he's not going to. But they will raise the taxes on every thing we need and don't need to live on.
